Child soldiers

Dear UNICEF,

My name is Nourhan Elgendy, I’m student at The American School of Muscat. In our class, we have been learning about child soldiers. Since we have been going in depth with this topic, I thought about it for a while and Imagined myself there. When I did finish the process of imagining myself there, I thought this was unpleasant to even think about or imagine any of us in this situation.

In my opinion, Child soldiers shouldn’t participate in war or any kind of violence because there ages isn't the age to participate in physical fights .These kids should be studying, playing, participating in sports and so much more. These kids who were forced to be out in this situation is because they don’t have enough people in the military, will here is the moment is of truth it’s not correct, they do a have elder people who can participate in this kind of stuff, they shouldn’t be using kids who are 7,8,10 and above to build up their military. These kids deserve to have have a family and live their childhoods like any other kids that is blessed to have this life and not having to get involved in this upsetting and unfair situation. It's not logical for a 7,8,10 years old to participate in war and hold a AK-47’s and start shooting people without knowing the proper reasoning for it.

Perhaps you weren’t aware, these insane kids got separated from their families and went to war because of government corruptions. For example: The Somalia corruption in 1997 , due to this, these kids don’t have the freedom to be like any other kids worldwide. These kids are now brainwashed because of how many drugs they take in a day. They will kill people front of them and they don't react to a single action because their brains is just brainwashed , they don't have any kind of sentiment. These kids need help, they need to have a normal life. They can't be living like that, some of them join when they are 7,8,10 and older, but the least is 7 or even lesser. NO ONE KNOWS. It's upsetting to hear that these people go threw drugs which leads to brainwashing, mental and physical pain everyday because the government of a country is corrupted and that’s one of many huge examples around that we have heard that past ten years.

Do you think this is right?! Do you think this can actually make our future generations better by using them to be a child soldiers. From my perspective, I don’t think so, this corruption need to stop as soon as possible. Child soldiers isn’t the right way to make our future generations better people. If we keep using these insane kids in those horrible conditions, I don't think we will even have a future of happiness for any of the upcoming generations.

I will recommend, after these kids finish their “mission”. If they can be moved into a place that they can adapt in super quick, which will hold people in similar situations in the surround area. Which hopefully makes things a little bit more fitting. Which will lead to my dream, my dream is to make these kids smile again and live their lives that they deserve from a really long time.

Sincerely,
Nourhan Elgendy

in my opinion, she should not continue to participate  in war and physical fights or any violence because her age isn't the age to participate in war. She should be studying at an public school and have her normal life like any other teen who is 14 years old. she should be with her family and enjoying her teen life without involving into fights and driving and killing. this girl deserves alive like any other humans. she shouldn't be suffering and trying to help in war. it's not logical for a 14 years old to participate in war because this isn't right.

Ahmed is a little guy who is been pushed to be a form of a solider when he is in a young age . He got separated from his family and went to war because Somalia got ruined at 1997. So the kids doesn't have the freedom to be like any other kids worldwide. They can't have a normal life like playing in parks, studying in a public school. These kids are now brain washed because of how many drugs they take in a day. They kill people front of them and they don't react to it because there brain and there heart is just brain washed and they don't feel or have any kind of emotions. These kids need help they need to have a normal life. they can't be living like that, some of them join when they are 7,8,10 and older. but the least is 7 or even lesser. NO ONE KNOWS. it's upsetting to see these people brain washed and suffering everyday because the government of a country corrupted.

Tough week!

This week we have been working on reviewing our chapters and our small skits. We had to film some of the skits again after we checked with Mrs Callaway. Then we started the chapters that we had to do to finish the book and we are almost done, which in my opinion is incredible because I never thought we would have finished it! Lastly we have being working on the final looks of the iBook.

In the next few weeks, we will work as hard as we can to finish the iBook or at least get the majority of the book done. After that, we will start thinking about our Ted Talk. I'm super nervous for the Ted Talk because I don’t like talking in front of a group of people.

So far in this project, I feel it’s nice helping people but it’s getting really boring because we keep doing the same thing over and over again. Although this project is still interesting but not as much as it was in the beginning of the trimester.

Editing skits

Editing skits

This week we have been working on editing and making our skits in small claps. First step we accomplished was our mini skits with my mini group members (debra,Emilia). After that we started editing our skits and adding some nice twists into it. Then last class we started on our new chapters. Until now i feel we are accomplishing a lot of work done, which makes me feel happy that we can help the transitioning fifth graders to sixth grade.

Every week i feel i get more interested in it what i'm doing however sometimes i give up on this project because i think ahead of time which means that i think a lot about the negatives more than the positives. Which isn’t a great way to think of a project that you have been working on for weeks and weeks but sometimes i feel this way.

Our next step to this project is to start the new chapters, doing some more researchers and might go to Mrs callaway again for some more info about our new topics in this project .This is pretty much that we will properly achieve this week.

                                                      THE FUN WEEK

This week we have been working on our iBook. We finished 3 chapters about homework, lockers and older kids. Also the students answered the surveys that we sent it out which made us feel relieved. We also interviewed six graders in their class (science, Mrs.johnson). Then, after that each one of us was assigned a task to write about, for example: I wrote about lockers, Debra wrote about older kids, Emilia wrote about homeworkers. And this is what we did all week! Which was pretty fun do it!

Next class, we will try to design the iBook of the transitioning 5 grade to 6 grade into more interesting iBook. Second thing we should start to do is our skits for the lockers and homeworkers. Third thing we have to do is to put the videos and the written paragraphs into the iBook and get started on chapter 5.

Until now I feel passionate about this project because it’s an interesting topic and also it helps other people like the fifth graders. I also chose this project because it reminds me of my transitioning  of fifth grade to sixth grade, and at the time it was pretty tough in the first few weeks  because I didn’t know what to do and how to a treat the older kids and so much more.

The past few days me and my group have been working on meeting teachers, researching, reading articles and so much more. First we did another survey because we had some obstacles with the last one so we decides to do another one and send it again to the fifth grade students. Then we went to Mrs. Callaway (the counsellor of middle school) and we had an wonderful meeting with her and we went out of her door with so much facts and new things that we never heard. Then we planned on another meeting with Mr Everett and Mrs Callaway in the upcoming class from 12:35-1:00pm to get more ideas for our media project and learn more about transitioning.

Our plan for next class is to start our chapter 1 when we get our surveys and do more researches and lastly to go interview some of the six grades about their experience while transitioning to middle school.

Until now I feel confident about our project, even though we started facing some obstacles but at the end of the day we found solutions which made me feel relieved and feel more confident in this project!

Last class,  Debra and I emailed the fifth grade teacher asking her, if we are allowed to send her the survey that we made to the transitioning fifth grade. She answered  the email and because of her kindness, she accepted the request. Now we sent it the surveys to Mrs Kriefall, and this is what we did last class. The process until now is going well and I feel less nervous but I feel like this project isn’t something really interesting. Even though i feel this project isn’t that  interesting, I will still give it a shot and try to make it more interesting for me specially.

The next step will be to start the ibook and the designs. Then start writing the first chapter after we get the surveys back! Lastly, we need to also edit the introduction and add pictures.
